Rick “U-Dog” Doran was born and raised in Massachusetts. After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1981, he attended flight training and was designated a Naval Flight Officer. His first assignment was to Fighter Squadron 31 at NAS Oceana, VA. He then reported to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Four (VX-4) where he managed operational testing programs for the F-14 Tomcat. Following that tour, he returned to NAS Oceana and joined Fighter Squadron 103, where he helped guide the squadron to two consecutive Battle “E” Awards.
After attending Naval War College and a Pentagon assignment on the Joint Staff, Rick returned to the fleet and took command of Fighter Squadron 31. Following command, he was assigned to the Navy Personnel Command in Millington, TN. He then reported to the USS RONALD REAGAN as the ship’s first Navigator. His final tour with the Navy was as the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Command, Control and Communications at NATO’s Allied Command Transformation.
Following retirement, Rick worked for the consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton. As a strategy and performance management consultant, he supported a range of clients including NATO, Commander Naval Air Forces Atlantic, the Naval Aviation Enterprise and the Navy Marine Corps Public Health Center. After seven and a half years with Booz Allen, U-Dog joined the Check Six team as a Coach.
Rick has a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, a Master of Science in Systems Management from the University of Southern California and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. He is also a Project Management Professional, and has certificate in Change Management from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. He lives with his family in Virginia Beach, VA.
