Tom “Tip” O’Dowd

Operations Director International

A native of the Detroit area, “Tip” joined Check-6 after completing 25 years of service in the United States Navy. He was proud to fly both the F-14 Tomcat and FA-18F Super Hornet, amassing more than 2800 hours and 750+ carrier landings. His combat carrier deployments range from the opening volley of Desert Storm in Iraq, in 1991, through more recent combat operations against the Taliban, supporting our ground troops in Afghanistan.

During his naval career he served as a TOPGUN Instructor; as the F-14 Tomcat community’s personnel career manager; as an advisor on the personal staff of NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander; as the Navy’s North American Anti-Terrorism Operations Branch Head; and as Commanding Officer of two Strike Fighter Squadrons. While leading the VFA-103 Jolly Rogers, his squadron was recognized as the Navy’s top Strike Fighter squadron in unprecedented “back-to-back” years. During this tour the Jolly Rogers swept the community’s competitive awards bringing home trophies for everything from combat success to safety initiatives. His personal awards include seven air medals earned in the skies over Iraq, Kuwait, Bosnia, Somalia and Afghanistan.

Tip looks forward to carrying Naval Aviation’s fast paced processes and culture of excellence into aggressive industries, connecting “best practices” from one of World’s most dangerous and high tempo work places into other demanding work environments.
